The Opportunity

TECKpert is seeking a Senior Cloud Systems Administrator to support our client, a state transportation agency in Tallahassee, FL, on cloud services and platforms supporting critical infrastructure, applications, data, and business operations. This role plays a key part in the oversight, management, troubleshooting, and execution of Microsoft 365 environments, multi-cloud services (AWS and Azure), identity platforms, and enterprise server infrastructure.

The Systems Administrator will architect, design, facilitate, lead, and direct technology initiatives spanning infrastructure administration, cloud services, identity and access management, network operations, security hardening, and compliance. This is a hands-on senior individual contributor role reporting to the client's Office of Information Technology, with daily operations, maintenance, and administration responsibility for a diverse server and cloud environment. The role is 5 days per week onsite in Tallahassee with flexible hours between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, plus after-hours, weekend, and on-call rotation coverage.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Support and expand the agency's server and cloud infrastructure across Microsoft 365, Azure, and AWS environments
  • Coordinate server configuration and administration with the state data center, agency staff, and other contractors
  • Make recommendations for future server, cloud, and software upgrades based on performance and cost analysis
  • Monitor systems and applications to ensure security, availability, and performance; perform tuning and troubleshooting
  • Evaluate network performance across availability, utilization, throughput, goodput, and latency; plan and execute equipment selection, installation, configuration, and testing
  • Define network policies and procedures; establish connections and firewalls; maintain security posture
  • Create and manage Azure DevOps projects, git repositories, and CI/CD pipelines; configure Azure DevOps organizational settings
  • Recommend and assist with building and hosting complex application solutions in Azure, AWS, and/or hybrid environments
  • Deploy and manage AWS, Microsoft Azure, and other cloud services in support of business needs
  • Manage identity platforms and multi-cloud identity and access management
  • Support other IT staff, including developers, on infrastructure questions and dependencies
  • Escalate persistent problems to vendors, coordinate resolution, and document root cause and mitigation

Compensation and Term

This opportunity is for a full-time, contract position with possible extensions and pay commensurate with experience up to $80 per hour or $160,000 per year. The contract runs August 17, 2026 through June 30, 2027, with possible renewal. The role is 40 hours per week onsite.

Qualifications you need

A successful candidate has the following experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or technical institute degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 2 to 3 years of experience administering Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, 2019, and 2022
  • 2 to 3 years of IIS administration in production environments
  • 2 to 3 years of network communications experience, including TCP/IP and DNS, SMB/CIFS file sharing, and NTFS permissions
  • In-depth knowledge of AWS services and Microsoft Azure services in production workloads
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Server products
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux administration, including Red Hat and Ubuntu, plus Linux patching
  • Proficiency in networking principles and cloud-based network architectures
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 environments, identity platforms, and multi-cloud identity and access management
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause-analysis skills across a wide range of technology platforms
  • Ability to document and automate administrative tasks to reduce manual work
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, and to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to work flexible hours between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, plus after-hours, weekend, and on-call rotation coverage

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on Azure DevOps experience with pipelines, git repos, and organizational settings
  • Experience with security hardening frameworks and public sector compliance programs
  • Experience supporting state or federal transportation agencies or comparable public sector IT operations
  • Cloud certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104), Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305), or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator
  • Microsoft 365 certifications such as MS-100 / MS-101
  • Familiarity with FLAIR, Florida PALM, or other Florida-specific enterprise systems
