The Opportunity
TECKpert is hiring a Lead Network Administrator to join our team supporting TECKpert’s client, a government agency in Massachusetts. This role is part of a high-impact initiative to oversee, modernize, and maintain the agency’s network infrastructure and ensure reliable and secure data communications across multiple sites.
The Lead Network Administrator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing data communication systems that ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of the agency’s network operations. The role involves overseeing installation, configuration, and maintenance of network hardware, troubleshooting complex issues, researching new technologies, and developing documentation and policies to improve network performance and operations.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and implement data communication systems across the organization.
- Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve complex network problems, ensuring timely communication of solutions.
- Conduct research and evaluations on network products, services, and standards to support procurement and development.
- Recommend and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
- Monitor network activity and performance, ensuring early detection and resolution of issues.
- Communicate with vendors to expedite hardware and circuit issue resolution.
- Document all network problems and maintain accurate logs and diagrams.
- Plan and coordinate cabling, equipment movement, and installation for network expansions.
- Support new construction and site implementations, providing network recommendations and designs.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of network technologies, telecommunications, and emerging trends.
- Assist with developing policies and procedures to support the agency’s network strategy.
- Travel to worksites or emergency events as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of experience in network administration, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead capacity.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, VPN, routing, and switching technologies.
- Experience with Cisco or equivalent enterprise-grade networking equipment.
- Proficiency in network monitoring tools and diagnostics (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark, PRTG).
- Familiarity with firewalls, IDS/IPS, and network security protocols.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to sites as required.
Work Schedule: Initially 5 days onsite, with potential flexibility to 3 days after 2 months.

Employment Type: Contract (December 2025 – June 2026; potential extension)
